Discover Where Ya At Matt

Nestled at 8333 55th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115, United States, Where Ya At Matt isn’t just another food truck or diner-it’s a celebration of Southern comfort that brings New Orleans flavors straight to the Pacific Northwest. The first time I stumbled upon it was on a cloudy Seattle afternoon, when the scent of buttery shrimp and sizzling andouille sausage cut through the cool air. That moment alone made it clear: this wasn’t fast food; it was soul food, served with pride and heart.

Anyone familiar with the Seattle food scene knows that it thrives on creativity and authenticity, and this spot hits both marks. The menu reads like a love letter to Louisiana-po’ boys overflowing with crispy fried oysters, rich gumbo thickened just right with okra and roux, and the unforgettable beignets dusted in powdered sugar. Every bite tells a story. According to the restaurant’s own account, founder Matthew Lewis trained in classic French cuisine before channeling his Southern roots into something unique, and it shows. Each dish feels meticulously crafted yet effortlessly indulgent.

During my visit, I tried the roast beef debris po’ boy, and it was everything you’d hope for-messy, juicy, and packed with layers of flavor. A friend went for the shrimp and grits, and the creamy texture of the grits paired with the spice of the shrimp left her speechless for a moment. The portions are generous but not overwhelming, making it perfect for both a quick lunch stop or a laid-back dinner. The place hums with energy, and whether you’re sitting at a nearby park bench or the counter, the vibe feels warm and communal.

Professionally speaking, consistency in a restaurant’s flavor profile is a big deal, and this team nails it. Based on customer reviews across Yelp and Google Maps, the restaurant maintains an average rating above 4.7 stars, with guests repeatedly praising the authenticity of the Cajun seasoning and the friendliness of the staff. These ratings align with a 2023 report from Eater Seattle, which listed the diner among the top comfort food destinations in the city. Those aren’t empty numbers-they’re proof of genuine customer satisfaction.

Even more impressive is the care that goes into ingredient sourcing. The team prioritizes locally sourced seafood whenever possible, balancing sustainability with Southern tradition. According to the National Restaurant Association’s 2024 dining trends report, over 70% of U.S. diners now favor restaurants emphasizing local and seasonal produce, and this establishment reflects that awareness perfectly. It’s not about chasing trends-it’s about respecting both land and flavor.

What also sets this place apart is the personal touch. On a busy weekend, I noticed Matthew himself chatting with customers, sharing stories from New Orleans, and recommending his favorite specials. That hands-on approach builds trust-it’s the kind of experience you can’t fake. You feel like you’re being welcomed into someone’s home kitchen, not just served at a restaurant window. It’s this authenticity that has earned Where Ya At Matt a loyal following across Seattle’s neighborhoods.

If you’re planning to visit, checking the current location online is a good idea, since their truck moves around the city. Still, the main base on 55th Ave NE remains a constant hub for fans. The staff will guide you through the menu if you’re new to Cajun cuisine, and it’s worth asking about seasonal specials-sometimes you’ll find a crawfish étouffée or jambalaya that isn’t listed on the regular board.

What makes this restaurant special isn’t just the food, though it’s stellar-it’s the sense of place. It captures the rhythm and heart of New Orleans while embracing Seattle’s laid-back charm. Every time I leave, I’m already planning my next visit, craving that golden fried shrimp and the laughter echoing from the line of happy customers. Whether you’re a longtime local or just passing through, this is one dining experience that feels like a conversation between two cities-and a delicious one at that.

  • Tried this food truck on a whim and didn’t go in with any expectations, now it is going to be one of my go trucks. The best sandwich and beignets that I have ever had! Incredible flavor and I need the recipe for their house made mayo, 10/10 would recommend!

  • I go every time I see them on the schedule at one of the nearby breweries and everything I've ordered has been amazing. The muffuletta is great, and it's really nice to have the gumbo and jambalaya as options in the colder months. Good options for sides as well, and the beignets are incredible - better than most of the beignets I tried in NOLA. There are A LOT of food trucks around here and I'm grateful that this is one of them.

  • I really needed some southern comfort food and OMG so happy to find this truck! I read through the reviews first because Southern food in the PNW is typically not Southern and kind of gross but I saw no complaints about the food! A few negatives over the friendliness but that just feels like some elitist nonsense. It's a food truck and the food was SOUTHERN! Great job

  • Always good. Ajustes consistent. Pretty much blows away the experience and cost at other trucks in town. Haven't gone wrong with any menu options to date and would always recommend popping in no matter where you see the truck.

  • Great food truck! Excellent point. Any Louisiana native knows points start with the bread. They have authentic French bread. Crispy and chewy. Shrimp were light and clean tasting. Catfish poboy was also good. Both with just the right amount of mayo, lettuce and tomato. Delicious! Find these guys through their website. Eat the poboy. You’ll be back. I know I will.
